Like Dragon Gaiden
In “Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name”, players take on the role of Kazuma Kiryu, the original protagonist of the “Yakuza” series. The game is a spin-off from the main series, taking place between the events of Yakuza 6: Song of Life, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and the upcoming Yakuza: Infinite Fortune.
In this new adventure set in Osaka, Kiryu assumes the role of a secret agent participating in various missions. The game, released on November 9, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, invites players to explore Kiryu’s secret adventures in a familiar yet exciting new environment.
Like Dragon Gaiden gameplay
Players will lead Kazuma Kiryu as he explores Osaka’s Sotenbori district in Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased his Name, and partially ventures into Yokohama’s Ise in Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Lost Judgment Saaki Ijincho District. The central hub area called the Castle is the base for supporting activities. The game reintroduces familiar mini-games such as karaoke, pocket track racing, cabaret clubs, and fighting arenas. New character Akame helps Kiryu by providing side quests.
Kiryu uses two fighting styles: Yakuza, which is his traditional aggressive fighting style reminiscent of earlier games, and Agent, which focuses on high-speed, precision combat using modern equipment.

Like “Lost Judgment”, “Like a Dragon Gaiden” also provides a variety of classic master system games for Kiryu to play, including Alex Kidd in “Wonder World”, “Alien Syndrome”, etc. In addition, arcade games such as “Virtua Fighter 2”, “Sonic the Fighters” and “Fighting Vipers 2” are also available for Kiryu’s entertainment.

In “Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name”, Kazuma Kiryu assumed the alias “Joryu” and faked his death to become an agent of the Daidaiji sect. Assigned tasks help fund Morning Glory Orphanage.
When the mission goes awry, Kiryu becomes embroiled in a conflict initiated by the Watase family. He travels between factions, meeting new characters like Hanawa and Akame, while reuniting with familiar faces like Masaru Watase, Daigo Dojima, and Ichiban Kasuga.
Despite pressure from Daidaiji, Kiryu refuses to give up on his principles, which leads to conflicts and alliances to protect his values and those he cares about, including plans to disband the Omi Alliance and the Tojo clan. After facing betrayal, rivalry, and unexpected alliances, Kiryu secures the dissolution and the chance for a heartfelt reunion with his loved ones. Finally, he left Yumi’s ring on the altar of the Hawaiian church, ending his emotional journey.
